Hot Springs Romance

Want a romantic getaway in Montana that involves spa treatments and soaking in geothermal hot springs? Montana has a number of hot spring hotels and resorts (lucky state!), but here are two of our two picks for romance.

Quinn’s Hot Springs Resort

Location: Paradise (Lolo National Forest)

Surrounded by the Lolo National Forest, but with easy access off Hwy-135 is Quinn’s Hot Springs Resort. It’s located about an hour west of Missoula, but feels like you’ve escaped into the remote wilderness without foregoing the convenience the modern world.

Quinn’s Hot Springs has adult-only lodges perfect for a romantic getaway in Montana (children are welcome on the property, but families with kids must stay in one of the cabins on the property). The rooms in the Andrew J. Melief River Lodge boast beautiful views of the river and mountains, while the rooms in the Glacier Lodge provide quicker access to the property amenities like the restaurant, tavern, and hot spring pools.

But you won’t want to spend all your time in your room. Quinn’s Hot Springs Resort has as an assortment of hot spring pools plus farm to table eateries onsite. The pools range in temperature from 89 to 106 degrees Fahrenheit and are 100% natural, geothermal water.

Chico Hot Springs

Location: Pray

I love the white and green exterior of this resort that wraps around the hot spring pool and reminds me of a quainter time in decades past. Feel at peace as you and your beloved soak in one of the two open-air pools that are naturally warmed by spring fed water.

Then book a couples massage at the onsite spa or retire to your luxuriously appointed accommodation for the evening. You can choose to stay in the main lodge for easy access to the pools and eateries, or opt for more privacy in one of the cabins (such as the romantic sounding honeymoon cabin!), chalets, or log homes located on the 152-acre property.

Stay in a Romantic Treehouse or Train Car

Montana Treehouse Retreat

Want a unique romantic getaway in Montana that will be unforgettable and totally Insta-worthy? Then book you and your honey into the Meadowlark Treehouse aka the Montana Treehouse Retreat, a vacation rental like no other and one that was featured on The Treehouse Guys show on the DIY Network.

Located in Columbia Falls near Glacier National Park, the Montana Treehouse Retreat is a luxury accommodation built around the thick base of towering pine trees with a spiraling wooden staircase leading you up to the first level of the two-level treehouse. (And don’t worry — there’s a bathroom in the treehouse so you don’t need to navigate those stairs in the middle of the night to use an outhouse!)

Inside you’ll find window seats, shiplap walls, a tempurpedic bed in the master bedroom, a cozy kitchen, another spiral staircase leading to the second floor, and sliding doors to access decks overlooking the woods and the campfire area down below.

Izaak Walton Inn

For couples with a playful side, plan a romantic getaway to the historic Izaak Walton Inn and book early enough to snag one of the converted train cars you can stay in. You’ll make fun memories staying in your private train car while having access to the rest of the property amenities, such as the pool and onsite restaurant.

Go Glamping Together in Luxury

The Bar W Guest Ranch

Location: Whitefish

The Resort at Paws Up

Location: Greenough

Paws Up is another luxury dude ranch experience in Montana that has upscale glamping tents. Couples looking for the pinnacle of luxury and romance while embracing the great outdoors will love Paws Up’s honeymoon tents.

The Pinnacle Camp and Cliffside Camp are the two honeymoon tents and each has a 2-person soaking tub, ensuite luxury bathroom with a double vanity and heated floor, and gorgeous views of the surrounding scenery from a private deck.

Under Canvas Yellowstone

Location: West Yellowstone

The accommodations at Under Canvas Yellowstone only include glamping tents, making for a truly rustic feel while not having to deal with any of the hassle that comes with camping. And since it’s not a dude ranch (which usually comes with a hefty all-inclusive price tag) the price at Under Canvas Yellowstone is much more affordable.

Under Canvas Yellowstone is located 10 minutes from the West Entrance to Yellowstone National Park. It has onsite food, campfires for roasting s’mores, and plenty of space between the tents. We especially love the Stargazer tent for couples since it has a skylight-style window right above the head of the bed, where you can cuddle up and fall asleep together while watching the stars twinkle overhead.

Camping for Romance

Luxurious hotels and glamping is great and all, but maybe you and your beloved LOVE actual camping! If the two of you are more the work up a sweat and get away from civilization type of couple and getting out into nature is what makes you bond, then head to Glacier National Park. The campsites there will have you falling in love all over again — with each other and with the planet.

Glacier’s jaw dropping panoramas are on full display if you hike to Kintla campground, Glacier’s most remote campground — just leave early to get there since it’s a first-come, first-serve campground with 13 spots. This is also a frontcountry campsite so you are able to drive there via a windy, bumpy road.

Rising Sun is another great campground for romance and is located right in the heart of the park near Logan Pass. As you may guess from the name, the location is privy to incredible sunrises, perfect for romance. Staying at Rising Sun gives you the added benefit of exploring that popular area of the park before all the crowds driving the Going-to-the-Sun Road get there. Rising Sun is also a first-come, first-serve campground so get there early (via car or foot) and plan on waiting in line for a spot.

St. Mary Campground is reservable and provides easy access in the morning to the many beautiful hike on the east side of the park.
